Who You Are
You are an experienced social worker with a minimum of three years in local authority children's social care. You possess a thorough understanding of child development, social policy, and legislation, specifically relating to safeguarding. Your communication skills enable you to perform direct work with children and work effectively with their families, ensuring the children's needs are paramount. You appreciate diversity, and your previous work reflects your ability to operate in a culturally and ethnically diverse environment.
What the Job Involves
As a Social Worker within the Cheviots Children's Disability Service, your role involves providing assessment, care management, and social work services for disabled children and their families. You will manage, monitor, and review care plans, work within the council’s guidelines, and make recommendations for service provision. You are also required to prepare reports and legal documents, attend court proceedings, and represent Children Services when necessary. The role includes supervisory responsibilities for students, participation in the Duty system, and working flexibly, including evenings and weekends, to meet statutory obligations.
Skills
- Degree in Social Work, HPCP registered
- Strong knowledge of child development and safeguarding legislation
- Excellent communication and partnership-building skills
- Proficiency in English and case recording technologies
- Understanding of diversity/equality principles
- Experience with Attachment theories (desirable)
- Completion of ASYE program (desirable)
