What the Job Involves

The job involves assessing a variety of planning and associated applications, including conducting site visits and consultations. You will be responsible for writing reports and making recommendations within agreed timescales, which will include handling major development proposals. The role includes managing planning appeals and representing the Council at Informal Hearings and Public Inquiries. You will provide guidance on planning inquiries from agents, applicants, and the public and offer pre-application planning advice to developers. Additionally, you will work with local societies, associations, and groups on planning issues and secure S.106 agreements to ensure community benefits from development projects. Duties also encompass handling correspondence from MPs, Councillors, and acting as the Duty Planning Officer on a rota basis, with attendance required at Planning Committee meetings.
