Who You Are

As a Technical Support Officer within the Council, you are committed to delivering high-quality service while effectively managing your caseload independently. You have a strong ability to communicate and collaborate with various stakeholders, demonstrating the culture and values of Enfield Council in your daily operations. You have a firm understanding of technical and statutory requirements related to planning applications and are committed to making a difference through your role.

What the Job Involves

In this role, you will perform tasks that meet service delivery targets and contribute to service improvements. You will independently manage and organize your caseload, ensuring compliance with statutory and performance standards. Key responsibilities include:

  • Calculating and administering planning application fees in line with legislation.
  • Validating applications against national and local criteria, assisting applicants in completing submissions when necessary.
  • Providing technical support on various planning procedures, including the General Permitted Development Order, planning appeals, and committee processes.
  • Maintaining statutory records and adhering to GDPR guidelines.
  • Resolving complex customer inquiries and escalating issues as needed.
  • Facilitating digital engagement with the planning services and ensuring effective service delivery through administrative support.

This position is a hybrid role, requiring one day in the office each week, primarily Fridays.

Skills

  • Proficiency in interpreting and assessing planning documentation and legislation.
  • Independent problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Strong relationship-building and negotiation skills.
  • Effective use of databases and planning case management systems.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and courteously in English.
  • Experience in a similar technical support or business administration role is preferred.
