What the Job Involves

This role involves communicating council services, initiatives, and news both internally and externally, supporting the Corporate Communications, PR & Engagement Manager to enhance and protect the reputation of the Council. You will research, write, and publish news releases, respond to media enquiries, and engage with different communication channels to inform residents and stakeholders. You will cultivate relationships with decision-makers, manage work with external contractors, and ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures. Responsibilities also include monitoring the press and public relations function for continuous improvement and supporting the development of the Council’s Media Protocol.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and manage conflicting priorities
• Experience in media-related work, PR projects, and journalism
• Experience in local government or political organizations (desirable)
• Ability to travel and work flexibly, including outside traditional hours
